Personalising your emails is a great way to engage with your contacts.

In AutoMate, you can easily insert custom field values directly into your email templates, allowing each message to include personalised details - such as a contact’s first name or a custom field like child's name or the class they are attending.

This tutorial will guide you through the process of editing your email templates to include these dynamic fields, making your communication more effective and tailored to each recipient.

Step By Step Instructions

1. Access Your Email Templates

  • In AutoMate, go to the Marketing section on the left-hand menu.

  • Click on the Emails tab at the top of the screen. This will display your email options.

2. Choose Your Email Template

  • You have the option to view either campaigns or templates. For this process, select Templates.

  • Browse and select the template you wish to edit.

3. Identify Merge Fields in the Template

  • In your chosen template, you might see placeholders within curly brackets (e.g., {contact.first_name}).

  • These are merge fields - special tags that pull information from your contact records and insert them into your emails automatically.

4. Insert Custom Field Values

  • To add or update a merge field:

    • Place your cursor where you want the custom value to appear in the email.

    • Click the Custom Values icon at the top of the editor.

  • A list of options will appear.

    • To use information from your contact records, select Contact at the top.

    • Choose the field you want to insert, such as Contact First Name or any custom field.

    • Clicking on a field will automatically insert the appropriate merge field tag into your email content.

5. Personalise Further with Formatting

  • You can highlight or personalise the merge fields by making them bold, changing their colour, or applying other formatting options.

  • The formatting you choose will be applied to the personalised content when the email is sent.

6. Save and Test Your Template

  • Once you’re happy with the changes, save your template.

  • It’s a good idea to send yourself a test email to see how the merge fields work and ensure everything appears as expected.

7. Get Support if Needed

  • If you have any questions or run into issues, use the chat icon located at the bottom right-hand corner of the AutoMate platform to contact support.

By following these steps, you can efficiently personalise your emails in AutoMate, making your messages more relevant and engaging for every recipient. If you need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out through the platform’s support chat.
