How to edit a subscription, including changes to the payment amount and frequency

Once you have created a subscription, you can edit all details on your subscription, except for the amount charged or the frequency.

There is a way to change the amount people pay through a subscription - this is done using our transfer option (see below).

You can also archive a subscription, or hide it from your booking widget page.

We limit your ability to change the amount and frequency of a subscription in order to prevent you from mischarging your customers by mistake: if we allowed you to edit the cost/frequency on a subscription, it would change for all existing subscribers as well as new customers. This may accidentally break the terms of your agreement with them.

If you need to change the subscription, you can create a new subscription option for new customers and, if you wish to change the charging for existing customers as well, you can transfer them to the new subscription.

The video below shows you how to edit a subscription and also how to transfer people to a new subscription in order to change the amount they pay:

Step 1: Access Your Subscription

  1. From the Business menu, select Subscriptions.

  2. In the left-hand list, click on the subscription you’d like to edit.

  3. Click Edit in the top right-hand corner.

Step 2: What You Can Edit

Within the subscription settings, you can update:

  • Location

    • Switch from online to a physical address (or create a new address).

  • Name & Description

    • Change how the subscription appears to customers.

  • Confirmation Email Text

    • Edit the message included in confirmation emails for this subscription.

  • Capacity

    • Limit the number of available spaces.

    • Once capacity is reached, the system will automatically start a waiting list.

  • Minimum Subscription Period

    • Prevents customers from cancelling their subscription through their account until a set number of weeks or months has passed.

    • You can still cancel on their behalf if they contact you.

    • Changes here only apply to new subscriptions, not existing ones.

  • Category

    • Update or create a new category for where the subscription appears in your booking widget.

  • Visibility Settings

    • Archive the subscription (removes it from future use).

    • Hide it from the widget.

  • Age Limits

    • Set restrictions if your subscription is displayed on partner sites.

  • Custom Fields

    • Add or edit extra booking questions specific to this subscription.

After making changes, click Next and then Save.

Step 3: Changing Price or Frequency

Since you can’t edit these directly, here’s the workaround:

  1. Create a New Subscription

    • From the Subscriptions page, click New Subscription (or Copy From to duplicate settings).

    • Enter the new price and/or frequency.

    • Ensure capacity, categories, and minimum terms are correct.

    • Save the new subscription.

  2. Transfer Existing Subscribers

    • Go to the subscriber list for the old subscription.

    • Select Transfer All.

    • Choose the new subscription from the dropdown.

    • Options:

      • Prorate to Next Payment: Adjusts payments fairly if you transfer mid-cycle.

      • Send Transfer Email: Notifies customers of the change.

  3. Confirm Transfer

    • Once complete, subscribers will be removed from the old subscription and appear under the new one with the updated price/frequency.

Example

  • Old subscription: £30/month.

  • New subscription: £35/month.

  • Transfer with prorating ensures subscribers only pay the extra difference for the remaining part of the month before moving fully to the new £35 cycle.

Conclusion

You can easily edit most subscription details such as capacity, minimum terms, and descriptions.
For pricing or frequency changes, create a new subscription and transfer subscribers across.
